Musical Arts Are Part Of The Emirati Cultural Fabric

“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without,” an inspiring saying by the great Chinese philosopher Confucius. He believed in music given its legacy and howintertwined with our humanity it is. In addition to representing a voice with which every culture in the world expresses itsunique character, music constitutes a universal language understood by all.

As such, the commemoration of World Music Day is a celebration of cultures brought together with the power of music throughdialogue, mutual understanding and peace. In Dubai, the emirate that is vibrantwith the colours of world cultures and embraces various forms of arts and creativity, music is part of the UAE’s heritage, and we celebrate it not only on its international day, but throughout the year. Music festivals are an integral part of the emirate’s annual calendar of events that bring together the most important artists and musicians from around the world, such asDubai International Jazz Festival, RedfestDXB, Groove on the Grass, amongmany others that celebrate the universality of music and its framework as a whole.

At Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), we pay great attention to music, and we are keen to strengthen the position of Emirati musical arts. We also seektoenhance its presence on the local and international map as a pillar forbuilding bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through which we enrich the cultural scene in the emirate. This is further consolidated by the fact that music is a part of all the festivals and events we sponsorduring which we celebrate local musical artsand host bands and musical talents from around the world to participate in them.

Dubai Culture spares no effort in supporting talents in the musical field, whether Emiratis, residents or visitors, and advancing them through comprehensive and innovative training programmes, such as the Dubai Performing Arts Programme through which we seek to activate the musical movement in the emirateand establish a prominent platform for music to discover a new generation of talents and enhance their craft. This contributes to enriching the sector with young talents in the field of musical arts to enhance the emirate’s position as a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent.
