Abu Dhabi Festival Celebrates 100 Years Of ‘La Cumparsita’

Under the patronage of H.E. Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance, and ahead of the official launch of the Abu Dhabi Festival 2018 headline programme, Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) presents The Centenary of ‘La Cumparsita,’ a celebratory concert marking 100 years of the anthem of the tangos. Taking place on 23 November 2017, the Arab World Premiere performance is presented in partnership with the Embassy of Uruguay and in association with The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Performed by the iconic Uruguayan bandoneònist Hector Ulises Passarella and his band, the evening will celebrate the definitive anthem of the tangos reaching its 100^th anniversary and the instrument’s expressive and powerful sound – demonstrating why it is synonymous with the passionate tango. A programme of iconic works including contemporary and traditional tangos, as well as innovative arrangements of pieces by Chopin and Bach, will showcase the diversity of the artform and the instrument.
