Ramadan 2026: Wego Data Shows UAE Travelers Prioritising Staycations And Purpose-Led Travel
Wego, the number one travel app and the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), uncovers Ramadan 2026 travel trends among UAE residents, showing sustained interest in staycations, cultural experiences, and spiritually focused city breaks during the holy month.
Wego data shows that as Ramadan approaches, UAE residents are increasingly planning shorter, experience-led trips aligned with adjusted daily routines. Travel behaviour during the holy month places greater emphasis on intra-UAE movement, alongside selective, short-haul outbound journeys to culturally resonant destinations.
Staycations Remain Central to Ramadan Travel
Staycations continue to anchor Ramadan travel planning across the UAE, supported by ease of access, flexible trip durations, and a strong calendar of cultural and religious programming across the emirates. Wego data indicates that staycation searches from UAE residents have more than doubled compared to Ramadan 2025.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi remain the most searched destinations for Ramadan staycations, with 31% of hotel searches leaning toward 4-star hotels. Average hotel rates during Ramadan 2026 have increased by 17%, mirroring the jump in interest for domestic short breaks during the holy month.
During Ramadan, staycation demand is shaped less by accommodation alone and more by location. UAE residents prioritize hotels with access to mosque districts, cultural venues, Ramadan tents, and evening promenades, enabling them to combine Iftar gatherings with late-night social and cultural activities within a single short stay.
Cultural Experiences Shape Ramadan Travel Choices
Cultural experiences continue to influence how UAE residents plan their travel during Ramadan, with many prioritizing destinations that offer a strong sense of heritage, tradition, and community. As travel patterns adapt around the holy month, travelers are increasingly drawn to locations that allow them to engage meaningfully with local culture while maintaining a slower, more reflective pace of travel.
Wego hotel data shows nearly 75% of top searched properties are located near cultural districts, heritage areas, and cultural landmarks.
Selective Outbound Travel to Culturally Relevant Destinations
While domestic travel dominates Ramadan planning, Wego observes limited outbound travel to nearby regional destinations with cultural and spiritual significance. Flight searches for surrounding MENA countries rose by 94%, largely linked to family visits and heritage-based travel.
Outbound trips remain short-haul and selective, with average airfares showing a YoY increase of 9%, as travelers prioritize cultural relevance over leisure-focused travel.
Mobile-First Planning Shapes Ramadan Travel
Ramadan travel planning in the UAE continues to be mobile led, with 69% of bookings made via the Wego app during Ramadan 2026. Travelers increasingly rely on mobile platforms to compare prices, locations, and availability before booking.
Search behavior shows strong emphasis on accommodation proximity to mosques, cultural districts, and dining areas, reinforcing the importance of location-led decision-making during the holy month.
