Three New Models In 2019 As MG Motor’s Middle East Expansion Gains Momentum
MG Motor is set to embark on its most prolific period in recent years, announcing that it will launch three brand new models across the Middle East in the second half of 2019. The move builds on the brand’s rapidly-growing popularity with car buyers across the region by dramatically expanding its product offering.
Having launched in the Middle East in 2015 with just one hero model, MG currently boasts a line-up of MG 6, MG RX 5, MG ZS and MG GS, and will soon add three more to its stable following four years of year-on-year growth. All three models, the MG 5, MG RX 8 and MG HS, are totally new from the ground up and will appeal to new audiences as they take the brand into a new segment for the first time. Coupled with the brand’s extremely strong retail network, delivering the highest levels of customer service, these additions set to further enhance MG’s sustainable regional growth in the coming years.
MG’s first ever entrant into the large SUV sector, the 7-seat MG RX 8 is anticipated to disrupt the field as it appeals to Middle East 4×4 customers looking to stand out from the crowd. Taller, longer and wider than some of its Japanese competitors, the MG RX 8 offers a premium interior that benefits from the largest third row space in the segment, as well six different driving modes to provide a truly professional off-road capability.
The brand’s new compact sedan, the MG 5 will ensure that buyers no longer have to compromise when choosing a new car. Sitting in the highly competitive B segment, the sport looking MG 5 will be offered with an efficient 1.5L petrol engine and an impressive level of hi-tech features, including rear view camera, 10.1-inch touch screen, push button start and a 360o surround-view camera for ultimate safety.
The MG HS will be the company’s new offering in the mid-size SUV sector, superseding the MG GS, which was instrumental in originally introducing the brand to customers in the Middle East. The MG HS is set to become the brand’s most stylish SUV, incorporating the latest MG design language and futuristic features, including; lane departure warning, blind spot detection, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10-inch touchscreen display.
More details regarding the availability of the trio of new models, which will all offer a full specification trim as standard, will be released closer to the launch dates.
Tom Lee, Managing Director for SAIC Motor Middle East, parent company of MG Motor, commented: “A significant trend we are noticing across the globe – and even more acutely in the Middle East – is that buyers are increasingly demanding better quality, style and technological capability: all at greater value. While competitors are looking to push the boundaries to meet these expectations, I’m proud to say that customers are recognising these attributes in our dynamic model line-up and this has resulted in our relentless growth in the region. Indeed, we’re currently benefitting from a more adaptable economic climate to the extent that we now have the opportunity to confidently compete in the seven-seat segment for the first time.”
“With these three new models arriving soon, our continued expansion into new markets and eye-catching marketing initiates we’ll be rolling out, we are really upping the intensity of our activity and I think that the coming months will be an exciting time for the MG brand.”
The British-born car brand enjoyed a great 2018 in the Middle East, with record sales registered despite the challenging market conditions. With a network of dedicated retail partners across the Gulf region, boasting 21 modern showrooms and 21 service centres, the brand is rapidly expanding its presence.
