Online Education Grows In UAE As Attitudes Change
The success of students taking online education qualifications has led to a shift in attitude of where they can take you – among both children and parents in the UAE.
Historically, families felt a non-traditional course would simply supplement the classic high school system.
But that has changed as the amount of students in the UAE going to leading universities has steadily increased in the last two years.
Kendyl Blackburn, High School Department Chair at iCademy, said: “The attitude to online schooling in the UAE and the GCC has changed dramatically in the last few years – especially when it comes to the type of qualifications students can pursue, and the attitude of parents.
“There are some incredible non-traditional courses we offer that are very popular and a great pathway directly into a career. This would include areas such as new IT careers and we are able to regularly add to those so we are always at the cutting-edge of education.
“Interestingly the attitude to passing an online qualification has also changed. In the past many people assumed that simply by taking the course you would pass, and we have had to work hard to shift that mindset.”
The range of courses at iCademy has been added to through 2018 and into 2019 so they work with the evolving job market.
They are often used by students who are talented in sport to allow them to develop that skill and keep up with traditional subjects such as maths and English.
Kendyl added: “Our students have been accepted into some very prestigious universities and many have been granted scholarships. Our High School Diploma has a global reach and we constantly strive to maintain our high standards. We are very proud of our success stories.”
