HUAWEI Mate X Ushers A New Age Of Foldable 5G Smartphone
HUAWEI Mate X is Huawei’s latest innovation and venture into the era of 5G. It might be relatively an easier job to have a foldable phone with two parts that are a screen and a keypad, but how could Huawei build two foldable parts that are a screen and provide a new interfacing mode between user and device. Thanks to Huawei’s Falcon Wing Mechanical Hinge, Huawei managed to achieve this extraordinary job.
Showcased for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona 2019, the Falcon Wing Hinge mechanism was highlighted as a standout aspect of its beautiful design and its impressive performance was greatly admired. HUAWEI Mate X received 31 awards from the media’s best tech review platforms and won the GLOMO Award for Best New Connected Mobile Device at MWC19 Barcelona.
Falcon Wing Foldable Design
- Both a Smartphone and a Tablet
The Falcon Wing Mechanical Hinge supports movement, folding and unfolding of the device and contributes to the overall blend between technology and aesthetics. It acts like a falcon’s pair of wings and hence comes the naming. Because it unfolds into a tablet mode that measures 8 inches, it doubles the viewing area for phone users and allows them a better and bigger entertainment experience. But if is folded or closed, HUAWEI Mate X smartphone measures 6.6-inch with a FullView display.
- New Interstellar Blue
With the HUAWEI Mate X, Huawei is debuting the new color Interstellar Blue. The inspiration is drawn from a sky glittering with stars. The back is also made of a new material – hard to tell what it is – but it looks bright and clean.
Flexible Display
HUAWEI Mate X has a dual OLED display which measures 6.6 inch and is truly a FullView display. It transforms into a full flat 8-inch tablet and 5.4 mm thick when it is unfolded or open, and it is bezel-less with no holes or notches so users get an extraordinary viewing time. Additionally, Huawei has supported it with an advanced heat dissipation to make this secure and in full swing.
Whole New Experience between User and Device
- Massive Display and Dual-Screen Multitasking
Moving between tablet and phone modes brings a new experience to users. The FullView display on HUAWEI Mate X is flexible and OLED panel. Because it opens and closes, that contributes to productivity and entertainment scenarios. For example, a bigger screen allows consumers to have a massive viewing area when they read a book or edit a document. It also comes handy in situations when someone wants to drag images from a photo gallery to the emails in split-screen mode.
- New 2-in-1 Camera System, Co-engineered by Huawei and Leica
It is known that Huawei smartphones come with powerful cameras and inside HUAWEI Mate X’s slim body we found three Leica cameras that play the role of both front and rear cameras. Plus taking photos and recording video, this phone has a feature that is likely to be unprecedented in a smartphone and Huawei names it Mirror Shooting. When it is folded and in the smartphone mode, HUAWEI Mate X shows a view finder on both sides, so even persons being photographed can see how their pictures would look like before a picture is snapped.
- Fingerprint Power Button
The power button here has a double role for both powering and unlocking the handset. The integrated button authenticates user identity when powered up—to keep the device safe and secure.
5G Modem Chipset
HUAWEI Mate X is equipped with Huawei’s latest chipset the 7nm 5G multi-mode modem Balong 5000, which supports 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G on a single chip and provides ultra-high 5G download speeds, at 4.6Gps on the Sub-6GHz band (theoretical). Balong 5000 also supports both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures for 5G. With non-standalone, 5G network architecture is built on top of legacy 4G LTE networks, whereas standalone 5G, as the name implies, will have its own independent architecture.
4,500 Battery and 55W HUAWEI SuperCharge
A 4,500mAh battery is packed inside HUAWEI Mate X. It utilizes AI smart power saving technology to rationale energy consumption and fulfill the demands for bigger battery performance in the 5G era. 55W HUAWEI SuperCharge tops the battery up to 85 percent in just 30 minutes, ridiculously good for those who prefer a fast-paced lifestyle.
HUAWEI Mate X is a new breed of smartphones that will combine 5G with a foldable screen and a new interfacing mode for a completely-new user experience. It would not have happened without Huawei’s vested and dedicated investments in R&D, where the company spent $13.5 billion between 2017 and 2018, and has promised a further USD600 million on 5G research.
